How it works

Calculation Method

Machine time = (cut length ÷ feed rate) + (pierces × dwell time)

Cutting cost = machine time × hourly rate

Total = cutting + material + $20 setup

Feed rates, dwell times, and hourly rates vary by material and thickness based on our actual machine parameters.

Tips

Getting Accurate Estimates

  • Cut length = sum of all part perimeters × quantity
  • Add internal cuts (slots, holes) to cut length
  • Each pierce = each time the laser starts a new cut
  • Thicker material = slower feed = higher cost per metre
  • Estimate sheets needed using the Sections Takeoff tool first
